Yamanaka lacquerware is produced mainly in the Yamanaka Onsen area of Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Its history began in the Azuchi-Momoyama period and boasts a tradition of over 400 years. It is made from carefully selected, top-quality Japanese zelkova wood. This vermilion ink container is decorated with the traditional technique of chinkin decoration (a decorative technique in which a picture is carved into the lacquered surface with a sharp chisel and gold powder is poured in to create the picture) by a traditional Yamanaka lacquerware craftsman, giving it the sophistication of traditional Japanese crafts.
