How to buy a hanko:

1. Choose whether you want a round or square hanko.

The official type used in Japan is the round one. We recommend the round type, which is the most popular choice among Japanese people. However, if you are using it for hobbies such as calligraphy or painting, choose the square type.

Gemstone, horn or wood. Gemstone seals are beautiful and popular as power stones. However, they are expensive. Horn and wood are traditional materials in Japan. We have a wide variety of materials available.

Katakana, Kanji or alphabet? Please refer to the character page for an image of each option. We recommend Katakana. This is because it can be used officially, for example on personal and bank seals. If you already have a name in kanji, please select this option. Of course, we can convert your alphabetical characters into Katakana and Kanji.
